Nusfjord

Nusfjord is one of the most recognisable fishing villages in the Lofoten Islands, but seeing it surrounded by fresh snow gives the landscape an entirely different character. I arrived first thing in the morning, hoping to catch the village and surrounding mountains in the soft light of a winter sunrise.

The conditions were challenging, with clouds constantly rolling through the mountains and the available light changing from one moment to the next. At times the scene was completely flat and muted, before a brief break in the clouds allowed sunlight to illuminate the snow-covered peaks and colourful fishing cabins below.

Those fleeting moments of light made the image particularly rewarding to capture. The contrast between the deep blue water, snow-covered landscape and brightly coloured buildings brought the winter scene to life, even if the conditions only allowed a few brief opportunities to capture it as I had imagined.
